Reciprocating Compressors

Reciprocating compressors, also known as piston compressors, are a type of positive displacement compressor that uses a piston-driven mechanism to compress air or gas. They are one of the most widely used compressor types due to their versatility and ability to handle a broad range of pressures and capacities.

  • Types: Reciprocating compressors include single-acting (compressing air on one side of the piston) and double-acting (compressing on both sides of the piston). They also come in different stages: single-stage for lower pressure applications and multi-stage for high-pressure needs.
  • Advantages : Include their ability to deliver high pressure and durability in tough operating conditions. However, they can be noisy and require more maintenance compared to other types like rotary screw compressors. Reciprocating compressors are ideal for applications that require intermittent duty cycles and where robust, high-pressure output is essential.
